Of Figwit and Flights

While ganking a Flight of the Conchords poster for today’s cartoon, I stumbled across an odd fact: Bret Mackenzie had a bit part in Peter Jackson’s Lord of the Rings.

Though an unnamed character, his elf has been dubbed “Figwit” by fans, and it seems to have stuck.

Which is cool on a number of levels. The first being, Flight of the Conchords is, for me, the new hotness. I absolutely loved the HBO series, and not just because every other person I run into says “Hey, did you know you look just like Jemaine from Flight of the Conchords.” (For the record, I don’t look like Jemaine from Flight of the Conchords. I was here first, so Jemaine from Flight of the Conchords looks like me. On the plus side, at least the “Hey, did you know you look oike Carl Sagan” has bit the dust. Long gone are the days, too, of “Hey, did you know you look like Calvin Schiraldi.“)

The second level this is cool is that I’ve been looking for an excuse to re-watch The Lord of the Rings trilogy, and this is as good as any.

Some good news: a producer friend in Hollywood says that Flight of the Conchords was renewed last week. This was up in the air last time I checked, so…huzzah!
