REASONS TO BE CHEERFUL, PART III — Madison is in the process of being hit by ANOTHER winter storm. Oh, well. If you have to be trapped inside, it’s best to have both Radiohead and Gulden Draak on hand.

Since I quit the State Journal in 1996 (where I worked for part of the time as a (GAAAH) music critic), I’ve felt a bit distanced from the music scene. So I came late to Radiohead. "Pablo Honey," "The Bends" and "Kid A" have been steadfastly playing for the past couple of days while I’ve been at the drawing table, though. And as I draw, I’ve got a faithful Gulden Draak by my side — the second best beer I’ve ever tasted. Yum. (The best? Westvleteren 12).

Twenty-four years ago, at the University of Wisconsin student newspaper offices of the Daily Cardinal, a really cute girl asked me to do a sketch for her, of one of the characters from my then-comic strip, Wild Life. So I did. (Did I mention she was really cute?)
