Huzzah for Hollywood

Sorry I didn’t post this sooner:

I’ll be appearing at the 25th Birthday Celebrations for Pegasus Games (aka “Pegasaurus Games,” in Dork Tower) from noon-2 pm both Saturday and Sunday.

(Actually, I’ll most likely be there much longer. But those are my “official” times).

I’ll be running tons of Out of the Box games, with prizes, and apples for everyone (“Apples to Apples,” get it? Get it?)

Come on down and join the fun!

OK…it took longer than I thought, but the HUZZAH FOR HOLLYWOOD CONTEST is finally done, and we have our winners!

WINNING DORK TOWER: THE MOVIE ENTRY

Joint Entry: Al Nixon & Chris Fast
Chosen by me
Prize: Signed copy of Munchkin Bites, from Steve Jackson Games

DORK TOWER: THE MOVIE
Starring:
Martin Freeman as Matt
Sean Astin as Igor
Mos Def as Ken
Seth McFarlane as Carson (voicing the cgi character)
Rose McGowan as Gilly
Scarlett Johansen as Kayleigh
Christopher Lloyd as Bill

Overally, this was just a strong lineup. Sean Astin as Igor and Scarlett Johanssen as Kayleigh tipped it for me. Many Jack Black and John Cusack nominations, which would be fine if the Dork Tower cast were ten years older than it really is. I thought this lineup, in general, would make for a more believable cast of 20-somethings.

WINNING DR. BLINK: THE MOVIE ENTRY

Entry: Jason Blair
Chosen by Christpher Jones and Melissa Kaercher
Prize: The first-ever signed copy of Super Munchkin, from Steve Jackson Games

DR. BLINK – THE MOVIE!
Starring:
Hugh Laurie as Dr. Blink
Mira Sorvino as Tracy, his receptionist.
Rachael Leigh Cook as Emma, his daughter
Noah Emmerich as Captain Omnipotent
Owen Wilson as Major Amazing
Kristy Swanson as Athena
Patrick Warburton as Nocturne
Ron Howard as Jimmy Hogan, ex-Wonder Boy
Lee Evans as The Quizzler
With special Guest Appearance by Dave Chappelle as Black Ice!

Chris, Melissa and I all loved this entry. It was also one of the early ones (entries got stronger in some cases as contestants took ideas from earlier nominations to create better overall mixes). I was pretty sure that, even if this didn’t win, Hugh Laurie (“Jeeves and Wooster,” “Blackadder,” “House,” et al) would at least take the Honorable mention category. Instead, that goes to:

HONORABLE MENTION
Gordon Horne, for submitting Kung Fu version casts, Gender-Swapping version casts, and, frankly more casts than you’ll find in your average emergency room (see below). I think he sent 12 or 14, in all. Forgive him: he’s Canadian.
Prize: Signed copy of My Dwarfs Fly, by Pegasus Publishing.

There were some really, really strong choices that didn’t make the cut. I know we’ve left a few out, but here are some of the picks that we really glommed on to:

CHRIS, MELISSA AND MY ALL-STAR LINEUP OF CHOICE DR. BLINK CASTINGS
(Taken from several different entries)
Dr. Blink: Hugh Laurie, Anthony Stewart Head or Bill Murray. Chris, Melissa and I were all blown away with the first Hugh Laurie mention.
Tracy: Gillian Anderson or Joan Cusack
Emma: Rachael Leigh Cook or Allison Mack
Captain Omnipotent. Omnipotent: Bruce Campbell
Major Amazing: Owen Wilson or Dean Cain
Athena: Miranda Otto or Angenline Jolie
Nocturne: Patrick Warburton or getting a body double and having a voiceover by Gary Owens
Jimmy Hogan: Ron Howard
Quizzler: Matt Frewer
Black Ice: Dave Chappelle

JOHN’S ALL-STAR LINEUP OF DORK TOWER CASTINGS

Matt: Wil Wheaton, Zach Braff, Simon Pegg (from Spaced and Shaun of the Dead), Toby Maguire or Nicholas Brendon (from Buffy: The Vampire Slayer). This was a strong category, with lots more possibilities than I’d initially imagined.
Igor: Jack Black was the obvious choice, which is why I really liked Craig Charles (Lister, from Red Dwarf) and Andy Serkis as nominees.
Ken: Mos Def or Phil LaMarr
The Voice of Carson: Johnny Depp or Seth Green
Gilly: Allison Mack
Kayleigh: Kate Winslet, Anrdrea Parker, Natasha Lyonne or Scarlett Johansson. Another strong showing. I couldn’t possibly pick one favorite here.
Bill: Chris Cooper
SPECIAL GUEST APPEARANCES:
Walden: Andy Serkis
Maxwell: Richard Riehle or Steven Root (two “Office Space” alumni, which made them double-plus good).

So congratulations to all the winners, and thanks to the nearly 100 folks who sent in cast lists!

You mad, crazy kids! I love you all!
