John Kovalic

USA TODAY called him a "Hot Pick." His award-winning editorial cartoons appear everywhere from his hometown WISCONSIN STATE JOURNAL (Madison, WI) to the NEW YORK TIMES and the WASHINGTON POST. His creations include the sell-out comic book sensation Dork Tower, Newbies, Wild Life, Beached, and many other features, including Murphy's Rules, The Unspeakable Oaf and Help Wanted.

He's John Kovalic, and he hates writing his bio in the third person.

The Origins award-winning Dork Tower comic book was launched in June 1998. The first issue sold out in eight weeks to fantastic reviews and tremendous industry buzz. "Dork Tower may just be the perfect comic book," raved Diamond Comics Distributors, the world's largest book distributor. Due to heavy reader demand, Dork Tower soon began bimonthly publication and doubled its circulation within its first year.

A dual national of Great Britain and the United States, Kovalic's humor also transcends languages and national borders: Dork Tower now runs in German, French, Italian and Spanish, with Portuguese, Swedish and Japanese editions in discussion. (Having been born in Britain, John is glad his sister can finally find his work in London. It saves him an amazing amount on airmail.)

An award-winning writer and a frequent guest on Public Television's weekly political forum, "WEEKEND," Kovalic's work has appeared in publications such as OMNI, USA TODAY and WHAT COLOR IS YOUR PARACHUTE . One of the first cartoonists to put their work on the internet, his self-produced World Wide Web site, dorktower.com, has received numerous national and international kudos.

If you ask him nicely, he'll tell you how he helped create GAMES Magazine's 1999 Party Game of the Year, the international best-selling, award-winning Apples to Apples. He may even tell you how he once ended up in the pages of the National Enquirer.

His degree was in Economics with a minor in Astrophysics. He's never used either.
